Meet Jake
Jake Hemminger is a singer, musician, vocal coach, and speech therapist based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Jake has been a vocal coach for over 12 years and has worked with students across the lifespan. Jake's teaching emphasizes the development of technical ability and stylistic versatility - empowering his students to believe in their vocal potential.
​
As a speech-language pathologist (SLP), Jake specializes in singing voice rehabilitation and pediatric articulation and phonological disorders. He also enjoys working with professional voice users such as teachers, public speakers, and preachers to help them overcome challenges with their voices. Jake began his SLP career as a speech therapist at the Mary Frances Wall Center (MFWC), a preschool program for exceptional children. In his work at MFWC, he focused on the use of music, melodic-based communication therapy, and targeted songwriting to facilitate speech and language development.

As a vocal instructor, Jake has held adjunct faculty teaching positions at Davidson College, Queens University of Charlotte, and Averett University. Jake has also taught at many community music schools, focusing on preparing young performers to pursue degrees in musical theatre. Jake's former students have attended top collegiate musical theatre programs and have performed professionally on stages across the country and abroad.​

As a vocalist, Jake has performed in a variety of venues across the United States and internationally, including engagements at Carnegie Hall and in Germany, Italy, and Latvia. In addition, he has performed operatic and musical theatre roles ranging from Mozart to Sondheim and art song literature from Schubert to Britten.

Recent performances include Roger Davis in RENT, Buddy in Side Show, and Roger in A New Brain with Queen City Concerts and Trott in The Departure with Evanston Chamber Opera. Additional performance credits include Anthony in Sweeney Todd, Henrik in A Little Night Music, Bobby Strong in Urinetown, Fracasso in Mozart's La Finta Semplice, and Count Danilo in The Merry Widow.

Jake holds a Master of Science in Speech, Language, & Learning from Northwestern University, a Master of Music in Vocal Performance & Pedagogy from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Technology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.​

Beyond his work as a performer, vocal coach, and speech therapist Jake serves as the Minister of Music at Faith United Methodist Church in Lake Park, NC.
